Event in Ottawa: Is Information Management Dead?
Posted by CLA Govt Library and Info Mgmt Professionals Network on 2010/09/14
Thursday, October 14, 2010, 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Ottawa Public Library Auditorium (120 Metcalfe)
In today’s outsourced, disposable society, public and private sector organizations may be tempted to trust technology to manage our information assets. In addition, if it were not for the requirement to comply, we might very well ignore Information Management (IM) all together!
This session will present the argument that IM as a discipline may no longer be needed due to advances in technology. Driving factors behind IM, and generational and behavioural issues, will also be discussed. Audience participation will be encouraged so that the premise, “IM Is Dead”, can be refuted or supported.
About the Speaker
Stephen Donahoe is the Director responsible for CGI’s strategic information management (IM) and enterprise content management (ECM) consulting practice. He is recognized as an IM and ECM thought-leader by both the public and private sectors. Superior communication and negotiation skills enable him to deal with end users, stakeholders and senior managers when determining IM and ECM requirements at both the enterprise and business unit levels.
Stephen holds Bachelors of Arts and Education degrees from the University of Ottawa. He holds Enterprise Content Management Master Status from the Association of Information and Image Management (AIIM). He has spoken at local, national, and international conferences and seminars.

Will there be presentation notes available? Reason: the head of IT in my organization cannot attend, but is very interested in following the discussion. (And of course, it is in the interests of people on the IM side of the debate to work with their IT counterparts!)
