Successful Canadian Research Data Summit held September 14-15

Working together to exploit Canada’s investment in research data for maximum economic and social benefit

Ottawa, ON (September 21, 2011) — More than 150 invited participants, representing leading players and decision-makers from academia, government, NGOs and the private sector, gathered in Ottawa September 14 and 15 to work together on a shared national vision for research data management in Canada.

Discussions were lively and a roadmap and action plan will be developed for further consultation with participants and the research community. The RDS Working Group will release a preliminary report in fall 2011 and a final report on the Summit in early 2012. The report will be used to further engage research data stakeholders and to highlight key actions required to develop a national strategy for research data management.

The Summit background document is available on the Research Data Strategy website and speaker presentations will be added shortly.

The 2011 Canadian Research Data Summit, Mapping the Data Landscape, was organized by the Research Data Strategy (RDS) Working Group to address the challenges and opportunities related to data management and, more specifically, to harness Canada’s collective investment in research data for the greatest possible benefit.

NRC-CISTI is a proud partner of the 2011 Summit and coordinated the event on behalf of the RDG Working Group and Summit partners.
