Getting Ready for RDA Webinar Series

Posted by CLA Govt Library and Info Mgmt Professionals Network on 2013/03/07

RDA: Resource Description and Access, the new cataloguing standard and successor to AACR2, signals a new direction for cataloguing rules and catalogue records for the digital world. RDA provides a comprehensive set of guidelines and instructions on resource description and access covering all types of content and media. Released in 2010, RDA will be implemented in a number of national libraries in 2013.

CLA invites you to join Chris Oliver, author of Introducing RDA: A Guide to the Basics, for two webinars to help you prepare for RDA.

Whether you’re a cataloguer figuring out how to move to RDA or public services’ staff wondering what RDA will mean for clients, you’ll find the answers you’ll need at these two sessions.

What is RDA and why do I need to know?

It’s 2013 and RDA is being implemented. What does this mean for the library as a whole? This session will give a quick introduction to RDA and the reasons for switching to a new standard. It will focus on why RDA is an important step forward for libraries and conclude with a brief look at the implementation process.

Have a question you’d like to see answered in this webinar? We’ll do our best to include it during the live event.

Date: Tuesday, March 19, 2013
Time: 2pm (ET)

Taking the Leap: Managing a Successful Implementation of RDA

How does one go about implementing RDA? This session will look at several aspects of implementation, beginning with an overview of the transition. Topics include the steps that need to be considered, preparations for staff and systems, and different approaches to training.

Announcement of RDA publication date

Posted by CLA Govt Library and Info Mgmt Professionals Network on 2009/12/06

From the RDA-L listserv:

RDA: Resource Description and Access will be published in June 2010. While we regret this delay in release of RDA, the transition from publication of AACR2 as a printed manual to release of RDA as a web based toolkit is a complex process with many interdependencies.

The updated text of RDA incorporates recommendations from constituencies and other stakeholders approved at the JSC meeting earlier this year. The revised text has been successfully loaded into the RDA database. The product is currently undergoing thorough quality review and testing in preparation for release.

We recognize that customers and prospective users of RDA need reliable and timely information for planning and budgeting.  We are confident that this revised deadline is a realistic target for publication of RDA.

Pricing and purchasing information will be introduced at the time of the ALA Midwinter Meeting, 15-18 January 2010.

Mary Ghikas,  Chair Committee of Principals
Alan Danskin, Chair Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA
Don Chatham, Chair Co-publishers
